Know Your "Why."
Every successful endeavor is driven by a clear purpose. When people lose sight of their "why," they often lose motivation, direction, and perseverance. The same is true spiritually. The believers addressed in Hebrews were facing pressure, opposition, and uncertainty. Some were beginning to drift. To strengthen them, the writer points them to Jesus Christ and reminds them why He came, what He accomplished, and why He alone is worthy of our trust and devotion. In this passage, we discover that Jesus is our perfect High Priest—appointed by God, compassionate toward sinners, obedient unto death, and fully qualified to secure our salvation.
We'll also encounter the mysterious figure of Melchizedek. Who was he? Why does the writer of Hebrews introduce him here? And why is it so important that Jesus is identified with him? As we consider Christ's perfect priesthood and His saving work on our behalf, we will also celebrate the Lord's Supper together, remembering the sacrifice that secured our redemption and the grace that sustains us each day. Join us as we discover how understanding Christ's purpose helps us understand our own—and why knowing your "why" is essential to living faithfully for God's glory.
