Throughout the Bible, we get a birds-eye view of how God works in the lives of those who encounter Him, or better—whom He encounters. Biblical characters like Adam, Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Joseph, Ruth, Esther and Paul, to name a few, were used by God to accomplish His work. There is much we can gain from their experiences and testimonies, in how God worked in the work He called them to do.
God is still working in the lives of His people— through their jobs, through their circumstances, through their struggles and in their victories. This calls for us to have a “kingdom” perspective, and apply it to everything we do.
But the modern Christian life for many is divided between the spiritual and the secular—though it did not start that way. However— through the merging of many different intellectual and cultural currents, the spiritual became relegated to religion (the church)— and the secular became everything else. This makes living the Christian life challenging to say the least— resulting with many Christians concerned with how they could make their Christian lives “fit in” with the rest of life.
The way out of this conundrum begins with reengaging God’s Word from a different perspective—that is, by observing how God encounters His people and how they respond to Him in the ordinary aspects of life and to make it their own.
The goal of very Christian is for them to see what it means to live faithfully for the Lord in every dimension of life— in every season of life.
